Step Into the Progress

At the Wigwam, restoration is not a single project with a finish line. It is an ongoing commitment to honor the past while ensuring its stories, craftsmanship, and spirit remain alive and valued for generations still to come.

Careful, thoughtful work has already transformed and protected key parts of this rare 1790s landmark — and that same dedicated process continues today. This is preservation in action: not just repairing a building, but safeguarding a living piece of Natchez heritage so the present and future can connect with it.

Preserving the Past

The Wigwam is more than historic architecture. It is a cultural touchstone that carries the layered story of Natchez across centuries. Every preserved detail — from original woodwork to structural elements — helps communicate the evolution of life in this region. By protecting these elements, we keep the past visible, understandable, and meaningful instead of letting it quietly fade.

Our Thoughtful & Ongoing Process

Significant restoration has already taken place, addressing critical needs while respecting the home’s original character and history. At the same time, the work is far from complete.

The approach has been consistent: honor what came before, protect what remains, and make thoughtful choices that allow the Wigwam’s story to be experienced and appreciated by today’s visitors and those who will walk through these rooms in the future. This is not about returning the home to one single moment in time — it is about keeping its full, layered history intact and alive.
